Being True to His Calling

"Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.' And they divided up his clothes by casting lots." Luke 23:34 New International Version

Jesus was true to his calling.

The reason he resisted temptation, the reason he healed the sick and cast out demons, the reason he taught his disciples and the multitudes about the reign of God was that he might have the right to speak these words, "Father, forgive them."

"Father, forgive my people who sent me to the cross."

"Father, forgive the men who drove the nails into my hands and feet."

"Father, forgive my disciples who have abandoned me on this cross."

"Father, forgive (enter your name)."

This past week we've ventured into the territory of what it means to be true to God. Sin commands us to be true to ourselves, then confuses us as to who we really are. The gospel calls us to be true to God because we have been declared to be his children.

Our only hope for being true to God is the fact that Jesus was true to his calling. His being true to his Father has become our greatest gift.
